Preparation of CF3sup(80m)Br of high specific activity

Description

Three ways for the preparation of carrier-free CF3sup(80m)Br were tested: the displacement of X in CF3X (X = F, Cl, I or H) by sup(80m)Br formed by thermal neutron irradiation of CF3X/CH3Br mixtures, by proton irradiation of CF3X/H2Se mixtures, and by the exchange of Br- coated on inert support material with CF3X. Neither of these methods fulfils the requirement of a high yield of carrier-free CF3sup(80m)Br; however, the irradiation of CF3I/CH3Br mixtures with thermal neutrons gives CF3sup(80m)Br with a yield of (11.5 +- 0.6%) and a specific activity of about 32 mCi mg-1.
