Mechanism of uranium binding to cellular components of microorganisms. I

Description
A review is presented of the literature dealing with the effect of uranium on microorganisms, namely on their growth and metabolism. The review is oriented to the problems of cellular intake of uranium, uranium localization in the subcellular structure and the mechanism of its binding to cell components. Great attention is devoted to the results of studies of the uranyl ion as a specific factor of active transport of external substrates into the cell. The review lists 50 references. (L.O.)
