Description
Microalloying of Ni3Al with boron has been shown to produce high ductilities in this normally brittle material. The improved ductility is due to boron segregation to the grain boundaries where it acts to increase the cohesive strength thereby suppressing intergranular fracture. This paper reviews the unique mechanical characteristics of this ductile intermetallic system that make it useful for engineering applications. The relationship between alloy properties and the processing method are examined
