Property change of high-temperature superconductors by irradiation

  • 1. Tokyo Univ. (Japan). Faculty of Engineering

Description

Data obtained on irradiation effects on high-Tc superconductors (HTSC), YBa2Cu3Ox and Bi2Sr2CaCuOy are reviewed to discuss the property change of HTSC by irradiation. Main features of the irradiation effects are Jc enhancement in a low-fluence region, and degradation in Tc, Jc and crystal structure in a high-fluence region. Critical fluence separating these two regions strongly depends upon the sort, the energy and the mass of incidental particle as well as irradiation temperature. Characterization is now being carried out on radiation-induced defects influencing on the properties of irradiated HTSC. (author)
