'Impulse'-a high-current electron beam accelerator
Description
The 'Impulse' accelerator belongs to the first generation of high-current electron beam accelerators and provides concurrent experimental investigations using two separate electron beams. A description of parameters and design criteria of principle systems, such as a transforming line, a double forming line and its spark gap, a high-voltage pulse generator and an electron gun are given. The accelerator enables to produce single-beam pulses of electrons with 800 KeV, 30 KA, 40 ns duration and 700 J. The existence of two sections makes it possible to generate two independent 700 KeV, 20 KA, 400 J electron beams simultaneously or with a displacement amounting to 100 ns. The accelerator proved to be very convenient for experimental investigations and sufficiently reliable during long operation
