Ferritin-determination and diagnostic value
Description
Three methods for the determination of serum-ferritin are described: a radioimmunoassay, an immunoradiometric assay and an encyme-immunoassay. The value of serum-ferritin for the diagnosis of haemochromatosis and sideropenia during chronic inflammation, infectious diseases and neoplasms is discussed. There is a correlation between serum-ferritin and the ferric storage-pool in the reticuloendothelial system, but the origin of ferritin is not exactly known. (M.J.)
