Emission spectroscopic determination of boron in uranium tetra fluoride (UF4) by DC arc carrier distillation method

  • 1. Spectroscopy Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

An emission spectroscopic method has been developed for the determination of boron in uranium tetrafluoride (UF4) matrix at trace level (0.20 ppm to 5.0 ppm) by carrier distillation method. Uranium tetrafluoride (UF4) is an intermediate product formed during purification of uranium metal. UF4 is further reduced to nuclear grade uranium by using Mg metal. It is therefore necessary to monitor the content of boron in UF4 stage
