Impacts of mining on physical hydrogeology

This paper provides a brief overview of the impacts of mining on physical hydrogeology. For a more comprehensive account, the reader is referred to the recent text book of Younger et al. (2002). In the account which follows, the following topics are examined: the types of mines which exist (deep, surface), their methods of working and the geometry of voids which they produce; mine wastes: their origins and nature; the implications of the above for physical hydrogeology of mined ground.
