Description

UO2 doped with 0.5 wt% Cr2O3 has been irradiated at 15000C to three differing burn-ups to a maximum of 0.45% FIMA. The gas release and swelling have been compared with a reference fuel and found to be similar. To explain the results it is necessary to assume both an enhanced gas diffusion rate a reduced grain boundary surface energy in the doped fuel. The doped fuel also exhibits extensive grain face porosity, which interlinks at the higher burn-ups, and grain face separation has been observed. (orig.)
