Comment on 'The superposition of rotating and stationary magnetic sources: Implications for the auroral region' [Phys. Plasmas 10, 2971 (2003)]

  • 1. Max-Planck-Institut fuer Aeronomie, Max-Planck-Str. 2, 37191 Katlenburg-Lindau (Germany)

Description

The claim by Rothwell [Phys. Plasmas 10, 2971 (2003)] that electric fields parallel to the magnetic field can be produced just by the rotation of the Earth's magnetic dipole in an external field arises from a misinterpretation of the generalized Ohm's law and is incorrect
