Small-sized pulse deflector

  • 1. AN SSSR, Novosibirsk. Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

The structural features of a small-size pulse deflector for particle extraction from a small-diameter accelerator are described. The magnetic core of the deflector is made up of laminated iron sheets of 80 μm thick. The iron filling factor of the magnetic core is about 50%. The use of laminated iron increases the induction in the deflector's magnetic core, which in turn permits stringent requirements to the magnetic field rise time to be met. The proposed deflector permits single-turn extraction of at least 85% of particles from a 250 MeV synchrotron of 1 m in radius. The total field rise time is (<=) 5 ns
