On influence of proton irradiation on phase transition temperatures in liquid crystals

Description
The polarization microscopy method was used to determine the phase diagrams of liquid-crystal substances (cholesteryl chloride Cc, cholesteryl pelargonate Cp and p-azoxyanisole) depending on the proton irradiation doses. Energy of protons was 70 MeV. Significant changes of fase transition temperatures (up to 10 deg C) were detected in Cc and Cp for doses of 1014 P/cm2. The changes are attributed to a rise of irradiation-induced stable impurities
