Hobnail hemangiothelioma simulating angiosarcoma: a case report

Description

Hobnail hemangioendothelioma – including Dabska and Retiform hemangioendothelioma – is a rare vascular neoplasm that behaves as a low-grade angiosarcoma. In this case report, a 40-year-old female reports a progressively growing erythematous plaque in left temporo-parietal region that progressed with ulceration and secondary infection. The patient was admitted for intravenous antibiotic therapy and biopsy. Histopathological and immunohistochemical analysis were compatible with Hobnail hemangioendothelioma. The present case report exhibits a rare case of vascular neoplasm with local aggressive behavior and impossibility of surgical resection due to its local dimensions. The differential diagnosis with angiosarcoma has diagnostic and therapeutic implications. (author)
