Development and Implementation of the State Information System on Ionizing Radiations - SIERI, SC, Brazil

The medical applications of ionizing radiation require rigorous state control as a way of ensuring that they produce the maximum benefit possible with minimal risk to patients, workers and individuals in the public. Based on these factors, the Sanitary Surveillance Directorate of the State of Santa Catarina sought to develop and implement a State Information System on Ionizing Radiation - SIERI, aiming to obtain computerized records on medical and occupational exposures to ionizing radiation, as well as qualify and manage sanitary inspections taking into account the development of public policies and decision making, enabling a differentiated and innovative process to operate in VISA as well as assisting in the management process of health centers with a focus on the quality and safety of the services provided.
