Outline of the network system of environmental radiation for the verification, evaluation and information service

The Japan Chemical Analysis Center has set about the development of NEW SERVEIS (NEtWork System of environmental Radiation for the Verification, Evaluation and Information Service). This paper outlines the developmental policy of the NEW SERVEIS, along with the introduction of the inside system. The aim of the present system is to provide the information necessary for the grasp of environmental radioactivity levels and exposure equivalent doses through the integrated collection and management of environmental radiation monitoring results. Items required for environmental radiation monitoring are described in terms of the following: radioactivity survey, radiation monitoring in the vicinity of nuclear facilities, and survey associated with the call of an atomic-powered ship. Policies of the NEW SERVEIS are: (1) acquiring the reliability of environmental radioactivity data, (2) collecting and providing speedy, accurate information for wide-spreading contamination survey, (3) providing the environmental radiation monitoring data in the vicinity of the nuclear facilities. For these purposes, improvement of data base, strength of output function, and network adjustment are considered. The inside system of the NEW SERVEIS is outlined according to the following: composition of the computer system, structure of data base, classification codes, input system, and output system. Finally, the difference between NEW SERVEIS and SPEEDI is simply mentioned. (N.K.)
