Alpha production on the 6He+27Al system

Description

Measurements of the elastic angular distributions of 6He +27 Al at energies near the Coulomb Barrier (Elab = 9.5, 11.0, 12.0 and 13.4 MeV) have been performed at the RIBRAS System (Radioactive Ion Beams in Brazil). This device employs a pair of in-line superconducting solenoids to produce and focus secondary beams of low energy radioactive ions. Specifically, the 6He beam was produced using the production reaction 9Be(7Li,6He)10B. Elastic scattering and reactions induced by the 6He beam on the 27Al target were detected using a ΔE - E surface barrier particle detection system. A high yield of alpha particles was detected in the interaction and its angular and energy distributions were obtained. Theoretical calculations using the optical model expressed by the Sao Paulo Potential of the 6He break-up and neutron transfer to the continuum are in progress. Preliminary calculations with CDCC (Continuum Discretized Coupled Channel) indicate that the break-up process cannot explain the whole mechanism of alpha particle production. (author)
