Progress in uranium enrichment
Description
Technology development for uranium enrichment was influenced by the general slowdown of nuclear growth in the past several years. Existing enrichment plants are presently run at reduced capacity due to low demand and expansion plans have been stretched over longer periods. However, this situation made it possible to consider advanced processes, like laser-induced separation, for implementing additional capacity around the mid-nineties. In the following article a review is given on the state of mature technologies and development prospects of the new ones. (orig.)

Wegen der geringen Nachfrage arbeiten die bestehenden Uran-Anreicherungsanlagen mit verringerter Leistung. Da Mitte des naechsten Jahrzehnts zusaetzliche Kapazitaeten noetig werden, koennen in der Zwischenzeit neue Anreicherungsverfahren entwickelt werden. Der derzeitige Entwicklungsstand von Diffusions- und Zentrifugenverfahren sowie die Fortschritte bei den neueren Verfahren (Trennduese, Laser und chemischer Austausch) werden beschrieben.
