Study of atom redistribution and compound formation in the Nb-Fe system under laser irradiation

Description
The results of Moessbauer studies of Fe compounds formed in the Nb-Fe system under the effect of millisecond laser impulses are presented. It is shown that on irradiation of niobium foil on which surface the 57Fe layer (of the 0.6 μm thickness) is deposited, intermetallic NbFe and NbFe2 compounds are formed, and their content in the sample and the degree of Fe atom ordering in them depends on the conditions of laser irradiation. Formation of a great quantity of Fe oxides in the sample irradiated from the Fe side is explained by increasing chemical activity of the surface under the light effect
