Description
This paper discusses the implementation of a Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS) in a light-water nuclear reactor. This system was developed as a result of the Three Mile Island incident to assist control room operators in monitoring the safety status of the plant. The SPDS is discussed in terms of its historical development, design considerations, parameter selection, and system operation. The major components of the SPDS are the hardware, firmware and software, and CRT displays. The SPDS presents sufficient information for operators to assess plant safety status during abnormal and emergency conditions. The system aids control room personnel in determining the safety status of the plant and identifying necessary corrective actions
