Outline of J-MOX safety measures

JNFL MOL Fuel Fabrication Plant (J-MOX) is what fabricates MOX fuel for domestic light water power plants. The application for the license to operate the plant was submitted to the Japanese Government from JNFL April, 2005 and safety assessment has been taken place by the national authority since then. It has 130tHM capability to provide MOX fuel annually and is to be constructed adjacent to the Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant. Although it handles large amount of plutonium, it should not provide any negative effects specifically caused by handling plutonium on the public nor the operators. It will have many safety features to achieve this goal. (author)
