Thin film BiPbSrCaCuO dc-SQUIDs operating at 78 K

Description

Dc SQUIDs (Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices) have been successfully fabricated by using Pb doped BiSrCaCuO superconducting thin film made by mixed evaporation from a single source with resistance heater. The dc SQUID comprises a square-washer with a small hole. These SQUIDs show perfectly periodic voltage-flux characteristics without magnetic shield, typically, the flux noise and the energy resolution at a frequency range from DC to 1 Hz and at 78K are 1.7x10-3 Φ0/√Hz and 3.6x10-26 J/Hz, respectively. Meanwhile, we have found that one of our SQUIDs operated on flux-locked mode produces a voltage-flux second harmonic under no bias currents in the measuring circuit. This phenomenon is not well understood, but it is most probably related to the I-V (current-voltage) characteristic of the dc SQUID. (orig.)
