Description
For comparison purposes, it has generally been agreed to express radiation exposure of the population in terms of the genetically - significant dose. As a result of the large number of medicinal indications the dose for X-ray diagnosis is approx. 44 mrem = 0.44 mSv per annum. This is the dose applicable for preventive care examination. This mean value will however vary for each patient per photograph, penetration and individual examination. Individual and technical factors, and carditians of application are largely responsible for the variation and these are discussed here. Optimisation of technical factors could lead to a significant reduction in the total dose. This could best be achieved by regular quality control. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Die Strahlenexposition der Bevoelkerung wird nach allgemeinen Uebereinkuenften zu Vergleichszwecken in den Groessen der genetisch-signifikanten Dosis angegeben. Diese betraegt fuer die Roentgendiagnostik durch die hohe Zahl an Untersuchungen aus medizinischer Indikation und als Vorsorgeuntersuchung etwa 44 mrem = 0,44 mSv pro Jahr. Dieser Mittelwert schwankt jedoch pro Aufnahme, Durchleuchtung und pro Untersuchung fuer den untersuchten Patienten erheblich. Die Gruende hierfuer werden im einzelnen dargelegt. Sie sind in individuell bedingten Faktoren, Untersuchungsbedingungen und technichen Faktoren zu suchen. Eine Optimierung der technischen Faktoren koennte zu einer erheblichen Reduzierung der Gesamtdosis fuehren. Dies kann am besten durch regelmaessige Qualitaetskontrollen erreicht werden.
