Independent production and Poisson distribution
Description
The well-known statement that inclusive cross sections are factorable in the case of independent production of particles (or clusters, jets, etc.) and the resulting conclusion that their multiplicities obey Poisson distribution do not follow from probability theory. The theorem of the product of independent probabilities leads to quite different equations. No conclusions concerning multiplicity distributions can be drawn from independence of particles. 11 refs
