Lepton pair production in hadron-hadron collisions

  • 1. Columbia University, New York 10027

Description

Lepton production in hadron-hadron collisions is studied in a class of models. In the conventional quark-antiquark annihilation mechanism, the parton distributions incorporate the latest experimental information. The numerical estimates bring out unique signatures and represent realistic upper bounds. In studying the dependence of the results on different quark schemes we find that in models with charm the results remain practically unchanged, or are reduced by a multiplicative factor. We conclude that should the rates be considerably larger than the estimates, then must be attributed to another origin.
