A new generation of heavy ion accelerators: the superconducting cyclotrons

Creators

  • 1. Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, Milan (Italy)

Description

History of the development of the superconducting cyclotrons is underlined. Characteristics of present and future PIG and ESR sources are presented. Present projects for construction of superconducting cyclotrons are described. It is shown that the separated sector superconducting cyclotron is the most interesting machine which can be very competitive in respect to the synchrotrons in the energy range 200 MeV/nucleon - 1 GeV/nucleon
