The map presents spatial structure of the principal economic activities. Forest economy represents an activity with areal location (the area of forest land is 1,988,989 hectares) and it is characterised by 4 types of dominant orientations of forest economy. Another activity with areal location is agriculture (the area of agricultural land is 2,448,634 hectares). Its orientation is determined by the conditions necessary for cultivation of selected crops and their combinations. Point elements represent the settlements divided into towns (136 town with 57.9 % of population) and rural settlements (2,762 communities in 2000). Apart from size of the settlements also their functions, classification in the hierarchy of the Slovak towns and villages, and the principal branches of their industrial structures are presented.
