Decontamination of radioactive contaminated wounds

Description

Three stages' desactivation scheme (from 10 to 15 min, from 15 to 30 min and from 30 to 120 min following the contamination with 137Cs, 85Sr and 131J) was proposed in order to limit the radionuclide transfer into organism via incised wounds and avulsions on Wistar line rats. The described technics and materials of clearance (including lidokain injection in the wound area, distillated water or rivanolly tampons, and cotton-wool and gauze drying) are simple to execute in real conditions. The effects were shown as clearance rates in percentage in relation to the initial activity in all cases to examine. Calculated are the coefficients of relative cleaning rates and of relative transition rates, as well as the velocity of radionuclide transfer through the wounds. The main quantity of radionuclide contamination was eliminated during the first stage of treatment. The total effects of the two kinds of wounds showed the elimination of about half of the radioactive contamination. The effect was higher for avulsions. The suggested scheme was characterized with a high efficacy
