High neutron fluence measurements using simultaneously mica muscovite both as track detector and as material with low uranium content

Description

A procedure for high neutron fluence measurements from 1014 up to 10sup(approx. 21) thermal neutrons/cm2 using the fission track technique is proposed. In this procedure the mica muscovite is used simultaneously as track detector as well as a material with low uranium content. Certain properties of the muscovite, especially the possibility to discriminate on the same detector face the fission tracks from different independent neutron irradiations by various dimensions, were considered. The neutron fluence calibration of a batch of five muscovite detector pairs allows over one hundred other reactor neutron fluences to be measured. (orig.)
