Electrometer for gamma and ultra gamma rays

The article describes instruments from the early history of the radiation measurement especially instruments for gamma rays. One can see how the construction of the instruments changed under the influence of research on cosmic radiation. Sometimes the instrument makers' influence on design details is evident. The instrument makers (who worked in the background) saw themselves as service providers of science and they contributed their experience and specialized competence self-confidently. (orig.)
