Safety test on sodium fires developed at the Cadarache Nuclear Centre by the Department of Nuclear Safety, section of safety experiments on radioactivity transfer are conducted in two main directions: analysis of the behavior and thermodynamic consequences of accidental fires, working on the basis of typical experimental results; research and development of methods and equipment to control and if possible extinguish these fires. The most important part of this programme is concerned with the sodium pool fires which would result from the failure of a secondary coolant circuit pipe

Abstract (French)

Les essais de surete sur les feux de sodium sont developpes au Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires de Cadarache par le Departement de Surete Nucleaire, section d'experiences de surete sur les transferts de la radioactivite et sont orientes vers deux objectifs principaux: l'analyse du comportement et des consequences thermodynamiques des feux accidentels, en s'appuyant sur des resultats experimentaux representatifs; la recherche et l'etude de methodes et de dispositifs pour controler et, si possible, eteindre ces feux. La partie la plus importante de ce programme est relative aux feux de sodium en nappe, qui se produiraient a la suite de la rupture d'une tuyauterie de circuit secondaire d'un reacteur
