Paperwork management and nuclear power regulation: an opportunity for improvement

The growth of documentation and reporting requirements resulting from US government regulation is discussed together with the Paperwork Reduction Act. The impact of this act has been to limit the escalation in paperwork demands on plant personnel time, and on the overall costs of paperwork, at least in some areas. A summary of the objectives of paperwork reduction, notably the objectives of minimizing duplication, the avoidance of reporting of little tangible use, and the objective of achievement of some standardization in formats is provided.
