Critical analysis of the Euratom Report on an interpretation of measurements by the passive neutron method

  • 1. Lyon-1 Univ., 69 - Villeurbanne (France). Inst. de Physique Nucleaire

Description

This paper presents a critical analysis of the theoretical model proposed by G. BIRKHOFF in the chapter IV of 'Monitoring of Plutonium contaminated Solid Waste Streams'. First we have studied the general approach of the problem and after the interpretational model. In this model, some points have been studied more in details. These points are the concept of effective escape probability, removal cross-section, equivalent sphere to a cylinder, the use of reference materials. Last, conclusions on the validity and practical applicability of this model are outlined
