Division of Fuel Cycle Chemistry
Description
The organizational structure is given of the Division of Fuel Cycle Chemistry, Nuclear Research Institute plc, Rez. A major part of the Fluorine Chemistry Department has been recently shifted to recycling, isolation and refining precious metals. The work of the Department of Liquid Waste Treatment is concentrated on the treatment of some radioactive waste types and the utilization of carborane-based components for radiochemical separations. The Waste Solidification Department makes use of the 'FROBIT' concentrator unit capable to concentrate liquids of the NPP operational type waste or mixtures of spent ion exchange resins and operation slurries. The treatment of liquid radioactive wastes applied by the Waste Treatment Department is based on the technology starting with evaporation and followed by cementation of the produced concentrates. The Waste Disposal Department has been acting as a coordinator of a Deep Geological Repository Project in the Czech Republic. (Z.S.)
