Generation choices as influenced by costs, risks and externalities -Sweden

Sweden's electricity supply is a low-cost and efficient power generation based on hydro power and nuclear power - 50 percent each. Good performance and an ambitious waste handling system is crucial for the public acceptance of nuclear power in the future. To achieve this power companies which own nuclear power must have all the expertise which is necessary to operate and maintain ageing nuclear plants. Cross border trading of electricity -especially the cooperation between the Nordic hydro power system and north-European thermal power system opens new commercial opportunities. (author). 11 figs
