Zr21Re25, a new rhombohedral structure type containing 12 A-thick infinite MgZn2(laves)-type columns

Zr21Re25, Msub(r)=6570.6, hR276, Ranti 3c, a=25.847 (1), c=8.771 (1) A, V=5074.7 (6) A 3, Z=6, Dsub(x)=12.9 Mg m-3, MoKα, lambda=0.71069 A, μ=100.0 mm-1, F(000)=16 290, T=293 K, wR=0.068 for 1045 independent reflections. Hf21Re25 [a=25.773 (4), c=8.760 (2) A] and Ti21Mn25 [a=23.596 (11), c=8.035 (6) A] crystallize with the same structure type. The Zr21Re25 structure is characterized by large segments (204 of the 276 atoms in the unit cell) of hexagonal MgZn2 (Laves) type, a structure type found with neighbouring ZrRe2 (HfRe2 or TiMn2).
