Thermodynamics of vaporization process and thermal decomposition kinetics of thorium (4) and uranium (4) dipivaloylmethanates

Static method was employed to measure the vapour pressure of Th(4) and U(4) 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3,5-di-thionates (Dipyvaloylmethanates) over a broad temperature range. The thermodynamic parameters of evaporation have been determined for thorium dipyvaloylmethanate over the range from 210 to 330 deg C (H=24.2+-1.2 kcal/mole, S=37.1+-1.7 e.u.) and for uranium dipyvaloylmethanate at 220-330 deg C (H=20.8+-1.1 kcal/mole, S=29.5+-1.8 e.u.). The kinetics of thermal decay of these complexes in the gas phase has been investigated. The values of the kinetic parametre inferred from the experimental data indicate that the thermal decay occurs in the kinetic area
