Color centers in KCN: a structural analysis of crystalline domains
Description
Pure singlecrystals of KCN exposed to X-rays showed several color centers detected by EPR. The F center was identified through the correlation of its optical absorption band which satisfies the Ivey law for the KCN lattice parameter and the EPR spectrum typical of a center in an anionic site. Two other color centers were identified: N-2 and HCN-. Two centers assigned to hydrogen atoms have their models proposed: U2 and U3 centers. Two other centers remain unidentified: an anionic and an extrinsic centers. The orthorhombic character of the N-2 center EPR parameters allowed an structural analysis of the crystal line domains in the orthorhombic phase. The optical absorption spectrum of the HCN- center in KCl matrix was investigated and showed a set of resolved bands with a constant energy splitting; this splitting was associated to a vibrational mode of the excited state of this molecular ion. Monocristais puros de KCN sao submetidos a exposicoes de raios X e diversos centros de cor sao produzidos e detectados por RPE. O centro F foi identificado atraves da correlacao entre a correspondente banda de absorcao otica que satisfaz a lei de Ivey para o parametro da rede do KCN e o espectro de RPE que caracteriza um centro em sitio anionico. Dois outros centros de cor foram tambem identificados: N-2HCN-. Dois centros atribuidos a atomos de hidrogenio tem seus modelos propostos: centros U2 e U3. Dois outros centros permaneceram nao identificados: um centros anionico e um centro extrinseco. O centro N-2 em face do carater ortorrombico dos seus parametros de RPE permitiu uma analise da estrutura de dominios cristalinos na fase ortorrombica. O espectro de absorcao otica do centro HCN- em matriz de KCl foi analisado e mostrou um conjunto de bandas resolvidas com separacao constante em energia; essa separacao foi associada a um modo vibracional do estado excitado deste ion molecular.
