Removal of Uranium and Europium Ions from Liquid Solutions Using Oxidized Charcoal from Plant Origin
Description
This study evaluated the feasibility of using oxidized charcoal from sesame stalks (an agricultural by-product) for adsorption of Europium (152+154Eu) and Uranium (UO22+) from liquid and mixed organic radioactive wastes. Desorption studies were also performed. Ultrastructural studies on the carbon surface using the scanning electron microscope were performed. The obtained results revealed that the oxidized charcoal from sesame stalk can be considered as an efficient promising sorbent material for treating low level radioactive liquid solutions of wastes containing 152+154Eu and/or UO22+ or their analogues. This is due to its good efficiency and low cost
