Highlights: • Temperature and precipitation interact with the complex ecology of West Nile Virus. • Climatic parameters have a delayed effect on the human West Nile Virus infection. • Climatic parameters might be used to predict seasonal outbreaks of WNV. Changes in climatic conditions are hypothesized to play a role in the increasing number of West Nile Virus (WNV) outbreaks observed in Europe in recent years.
