Successful development and installation of first two segments of LEHIPA RFQ

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

First two segments of the LEHIPA RFQ, that can accelerate beam to around 1.5 MeV, have been successfully developed and installed in the LEHIPA beamline. In addition to other parameters, the desired level of geometric precision and vacuum tightness were achieved. Internal geometry was developed to within a precision of 10-70 microns. Quadrupole symmetricity was also ensured in that range. Cold tests on the RFQ segments give a resonant frequency of 352 MHz and a field flatness of better than 3%, meeting the design goals, Vacuum tightness of multiple braze joints in the RFQ segment was maintained. Leak rate of 10e-9 Torr-ltr/sec was achieved in both the segments. These two segments were aligned in the LEHIPA beamline using a six-strut type support structure, and are now ready to accept beam.
