Safety studies on the MTR core of the BER II reactor
Description
The start-up of the BER-2 reactor with the selective use of either MTR or uranium-zirconiumhydride fuel elements has already been reported on. In this paper, operation at the full power of 5 MW is described, and characteristic operational data are given. Experimental findings and calculations on the safety of the system are presented to show that a failure of the primary pumps does not lead to critical operating conditions. The demands made on the safe operation of the plant in the course of the licensing procedure are satisfactorily met with these findings. (orig./AK)

Ueber die Inbetriebnahme des Reaktors BER II, mit den wahlweise benutzbaren Brennelementen vom MTR- oder Uran-Zirkonhydrid-Typ, ist bereits berichtet worden. In dieser Arbeit werden der Betrieb bei voller Leistung von 5 MW beschrieben und charakteristische Betriebsdaten vorgelegt. Es werden Ergebisse von Experimenten und Rechnungen zur Sicherheit des Systems mitgeteilt, die zeigen, dass bei Ausfall der Primaerpumpen keine kritischen Betriebsbedingungen erreicht werden. Damit sind alle im Rahmen des Genehmigungsverfahrens aufgeworfenen Fragen zum sicheren Betrieb der Anlage zufriedenstellend beantwortet. (orig.)
