Description

Spent nuclear fuel is a high-grade ore source for the noble metals Palladium (Pd), Rhodium (Rh) an Ruthenium (Ru). After its recovery from the spent fuel, the radioactive isotope(s) of each of these elements must be removed to reduce its specific activity. This paper describes the Plasma Separation Process (PSP) for isotope separation and discuss its applicability for spent fuel, byproduct recovery missions
