Monitoring of 85Kr atmosphere pollution

Description
The results of systematic measurements of 85Kr activity in atmosphere conducted since 1957, the data of experimental investigations of 85Kr latitudinal distribution in the lower atmosphere, which took place during scientific and research expeditions on board the ships in 1971-1988, and the results of influence of the Chernobyl NPP accident on 85Kr concentration in atmosphere in first weeks after it, are given. Methods of krypton sampling under expeditional conditions are described, and main characteristics of sampling and measuring complexes used for this purpose are considered. On the basis of the obtained data on latitudinal distribution and systematic measurements of volume activity in middle latitudes of the northern hemisphere time dependence of 85Kr injection intensity into atmosphere in 1958-1987 was calculated.
