Remediation of uranium mining areas in the Czech Republic

Description
The following topics are described: Uranium ore mining and processing in the Czech Republic (Straz, Rozna, Mydlovary); Options for removing uranium from the environment: Physical methods, Chemical methods, Bioremediation (microbial remediation, phytoremediation). Remediation in the Czech Republic includes covering the dumps with an inert material and drying the lagoons and also covering them an inert material. Following this sanitation, the sites must be monitored and managed in order tp prevent secondary contamination. Remediation is a complex, long-term and costly task. (P.A.)
