Progress in rotary-percussive test borehole drilling by heavy drifters
Creators
- 1. Compagnie Generale des Matieres Nucleaires (COGEMA), 87 - Limoges (France)
Description
From 1949 to 1959 the boreholes of CEA or COGEMA were all core drilling holes; thousands of metres were drilled year by year. Since 1959 the prospection for uranium was effected by non-coring holes, using a rotary-percussive technique with heavy drifters which is 3 to 4 times cheaper. Evolution of techniques, equipment and performance are reviewed
