Development of high field superconducting coil for the tokamak fusion machine in JAERI

  • 1. Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute, Naka-machi, Ibaraki-ken, 311-02

Description

The Cluster Test Program and the Phoenix Program are under way in order to develop high field toroidal coils for a tokamak fusion machine at JAERI. In the Cluster Test Program, a large size Nb/sub 3/Sn coil (TMC-I) was constructed and successfully operated up to 12.2 T and 33 A/mm/sup 2/ without normal transition in the Cluster Test Facility. In the Phoenix Program, a small size solenoid, multifilamentary (NbTi)/sub 3/Sn conductor, 34 mm bore, current density in winding of 97 A/mm/sup 2/, generated 15.6 T magnetic field at 4.2 K
