Description
As little as 0.2% of the inventory of a PWR-type reactor (without water) is made up of fission products and decay products. Only about one third of these are radioactive. A dominant role in the consequences of the accident is not played by water detonation, but rather by the time reaction of aerosol disintegration, since after a few days the hold-up capacity of the safety vessel as the last barrier to release of such to the outside is lost. This depends to a critical extent on the point of time at which the excess pressure failure and therefore the concrete/melt interaction occurs. The BETA experiment is being set up to examine this point. (DG)

Nur knapp 0,2% des Inventars eines Druckwasserbehaelters (ohne Wasser) sind Spalt- und Nachzerfallsprodukte. Hiervon sind nur etwa 1/3 radioaktiv. Nicht der H2-Detonation, sondern dem Zeitverhalten des Aerosolabbaus kommt eine dominierende Rolle fuer die Unfallfolgen zu, da nach wenigen Tagen die Rueckhaltefaehigkeit des Sicherheitsbehaelters als letzte Barriere gegen deren Freisetzung nach aussen verloren geht. Dies haengt entscheidend vom Zeitpunkt des Ueberdruckversagens und damit der Beton/Schmelze-Wechselwirkung ab. Das BETA-Experiment befindet sich zu dessen Untersuchung im Aufbau.
