Nuclear reactor fuel element containing an end piece for maintaining the column of fuel pellets
Description
The nuclear reactor fuel element described has an end piece for maintaining the column of fuel pellets in position inside the element cladding. This end piece has a central compression spring one end of which presses against the pellets and the other against a plug shaped piece fitted with a seat for the spring, a conical piece with an elastic ring around it diverging towards the end in contact with the spring and a head at the opposite end. The connection between the compression spring and the pellets is through an application piece. A central bore provided in the end piece helps balance the pressure inside the element. This element is particularly intended for liquid metal cooled fast neutron reactors
Abstract (French)
On presente un element combustible de reacteur nucleaire contenant un embout de maintien de la colonne de pastilles de combustible a l'interieur de la gaine de cet element. L'embout comporte un ressort de compression axiale des pastilles cooperant d'un cote avec les pastilles et de l'autre directement avec une piece en forme de bouchon munie d'une portee pour le ressort, un corps conique entoure d'un anneau elastique et divergeant vers l'extremite en contact avec le ressort, et une tete a l'extremite opposee a celle du ressort. La liaison entre le ressort de compression et les pastilles se fait par l'intermediaire d'une piece d'application. Un alesage axial est prevu dans l'embout pour faciliter l'equilibrage de la pression a l'interieur de l'element.
