Ionizing radiation as a factor of increasing bombycid moth (Bombyx mori L.) resistance to polyhedral disease
Description
The study was carried out in the period of 1985-1986 with known and regionalized silkworm breeds, preincubation gamma irradiated with 300 and 500 rad. The second generation silkworms, reared in autumn, were artificially inoculated by the polyhedral virus. The results obtained showed a positive effect of gamma rays on the viability and technological parameters of the silkworm. Viability raised by 4.05%, cacoons yield - by 5.488 kg and raw silk yield - by 5.24%. It was concluded that ionizing radiation could be successfully applied in bombycid moth breeding. 3 tabs.; 9 refs
