Heat transfer around a circular cylinder in liquid sodium crossflow, (2)

  • 1. Hokkaido Univ., Sapporo (Japan). Faculty of Engineering

Description

An experimental study is presented on heat transfer around a circular cylinder in liquid sodium crossflow. The measurements cover the range of Reynolds number 2,000 -- 16,900 for Prandtl number of 0.0067 under a condition of nearly uniform surface heat flux. The results obtained by this experiment are as follows: (1) It is confirmed that the present results are in fair agreements with the earlier results obtained by the same authors. (2) The present results of local Nusselt number also agree with the theoretical estimation by Grosh and Cess on the front surface of cylinder, where the assumption of inviscid flow field is reasonably applicable. However, a considerable discrepancy is observed on the rear surface where flow separation occurs. The discrepancy may be closely related to the difference of flow pattern between inviscid and viscid fluid in the separation region. (3) It is found that the experimental results of Andreevskii are considerably lower than the present ones except the separation flow region, where both of them are mutually in agreements. (auth.)
